Taste Inn Wales

Welcome to Taste Inn Wales

We hope this will be a place for like-minded folk who live, love to visit, or like Wales.

Our intention is for Taste Inn Wales to evolve into a community-based website for anyone interested in what’s going on, in and around the Brecon Beacons, who share an interest in food, wine, well being and general nice stuff!

We would love to hear from you, with any comments, views, suggestions, features or photographs you would like to see on this website, and you can send these to: reply@tasteinnwales.com

What's going on in the area

We love everything about Christmas, from the toasty fires and the mulled wine to decorating the Christmas trees and turning on the lights. All our elves work tirelessly and happily to bring the magic of Christmas to each of our places.

Come and sample our new Tuesday British ‘Pies & Pints’ night at The Castle Hotel, Llandovery. Every week from November, you can grab a delicious homemade pie-tastic supper accompanied by our local beers or ciders.

Sean Gerrard, one of Taste Inn Wales's owners is in great pain today - please send messages of support over to our road racing hero. Sean spent 11 (yes 11?) hours on his road bike yesterday on the legendary charity Dragon Ride. This enormous road race covers South Wales, the Brecon Beacons and is a huge feat of endurance for seriously fit people, let alone a food loving, top chef like Sean. The 'ride' translates into 206km on a small, pointy saddle with 3500metres of steep, gut wrenching climbs. He is not feeling tip top today, although his sense of pride should be sky high. Massive congratulations to you Sean from the whole team. It was no mean feat, especially when you consider that 400 riders had to quit the ride as the route was so hard this year. Respect.

The Tour of Britain comes back to the Brecon Beacons this year - good news for cycling fans like us!

We recently joined in with the fantastic annual balloon festival in Llandovery. We had lots of balloonists staying here at The Castle and couldn't resist popping in and out to watch the elegant things gently wafting overhead. How serene and beautiful they are, silently floating with only the gentle wooshing sound as the burners keep them airborne. Amazingly calming.

We've been smiling all week and there's a new, healthy spring in our steps following last weeks' visit by HRH Prince Charles to The Castle. He delivered a strong, simple, encouraging message to all of us in Llandovery and what he had to say, makes a lot of sense for rural communities like ours.

Last Friday 2nd March we were extremely honoured to welcome HRH the Prince of Wales to the Castle hotel in Llandovery. Before entering the hotel the Prince took a long look at our specials board and commented that our prices looked ‘extremely good value’ which raised a few smiles and relaxed everybody.

The sun is coming out, the temperature is rising and we feel that Spring is on the horizon. People are starting to venture out again and we think its worth extolling the virtues of Llandovery as its a veritable hub of activity, increasingly attracting visitors due to its unique location right at the heart of the mountains, rivers and forests of South West Wales. The longer we spend here at The Castle, the more we keep uncovering, the more impressed we become.

Taste Inn Wales are putting a 'team' together to compete in this years' Dragon Ride - the annual cycle in our backyard across South Wales and the Brecon Beacons. It'll be a family affair, with Taste Inn Wales co-owners Sean Gerrard and Jessica Bridgeman taking part. This fantastic charity ride where riders choose and ride various distances - 206km; 125km or 37km - up Wales' biggest mountain roads, is supported by Olympic champ and fellow Welshman Geraint Thomas.
